David initiated the ST40 high field compact spherical tokamak project, which achieved 100-million-degree plasma temperature in 2022. He also built a team of superconducting magnet engineers to develop high performance HTS magnets — one of which achieved a field strength of 26.2 tesla when tested at 4K at CERN in 2020. Prior to Tokamak Energy, David was CEO of Oxford Innovation, a company supplying premises and innovation support services to high tech ventures.
